🚨 WARNING: HUGE SPOILERS FOR THE ENDING You Season 4. 🚨
After all, by the end of the season we’ve learned that the “Eat the Rich” killer isn’t actually the IRL Rhys, but a manifestation of Joe’s inner psyche. Not only that, but despite Nadia’s best intentions, Joe doesn’t get caught and makes his way back to New York with Kate and the boatload of money.

So, BuzzFeed caught up with the showrunner of Cera Gamble — aka You – to find out how it ended.
For one, it was decided that Joe would end up back in New York from the early stages of planning for Season 4. Sera explained.
When asked about Kate’s arc specifically, he said, “I don’t think it’s an accident if you watch the show and you start to feel uncomfortable like some people are complicated.”
“I don’t think we should assume that Kate leaves the season knowing really everything, just because she said everything she was about to say. What would she accept in a relationship and in someone else’s behavior?” “It’s probably not the same basic standard as yours or mine. In fact, she says it isn’t, because Tom Lockwood was her father and that’s what she grew up seeing.”
Cera continued, “I feel like this is the season where the whole idea was to confront yourself — who is the ‘you’ of this season. She worked hard to look at herself and change in certain ways.” . But I think, by the end of the season, it should be pretty clear that this show has no interest in letting Joe off the hook. The fact that he lives as Joe another day means is that we have not encashed it.
Season 5, if confirmed by Netflix, will also be set in New York: “The idea we have for Season 5 is that Joe goes home again, but now he goes beyond his wildest imagination.” What can Joe Goldberg achieve if he has more money, privilege, security, than ever?”
An important part of this is the acceptance of “Raees”. Serra explained, “Before, 60-85% of his energy was spent lying to himself about the fact that he was going to a location to kill someone and then cleaning up that horrible mess. Which has happened due to not planning properly. If instead he is more honest with himself, and we are accepting that this is one tool in his toolbox, that changes him? He will always be your ideal lover. Will. His belief in love, I don’t think, will ever flag. If the Rhys aspect of him is fully integrated, if not, what’s in him?”
Thanks for talking to us, Sera! You Season 4 is now available for streaming on Netflix.
