Washington DC – The University of Chicago women’s lacrosse team kicked off its spring break trip with a 12-9 victory over Catholic University on Saturday.
The 16th-ranked Maroons improved to 5–0. The No. 21-ranked Cardinals fell to 2–5.
An evenly played first quarter saw a Catholic score in the final five seconds to lead 4–3. After exchanging goals in the second quarter, the home side maintained their narrow margin at 6–5 going into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Maroons took possession and scored seven unanswered goals in the space of 18 minutes. That run helped turn a 7–5 deficit into a 12–7 lead that they would not relinquish. Camille Kuwana Scored all four of his goals during that time for UChicago to jump start.
Both teams recorded 27 shots in the final box score. The Cardinals held a 15–10 advantage in draw control, but also committed more turnovers (21–17). There were 50 fouls in a physical game.
