chicago – The University of Chicago men’s and women’s basketball teams compiled seven honorees on the 2022-23 Academic All-District Teams as selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
Three members of the UChicago women’s basketball team were recognized – Bella Alfaro, Sophia North And Ellie Gross,
Alfaro has played in 27 games for the Maroons with one start. At his point guard position, the sophomore averaged 4.4 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. She leads the team in three-point percentage (43.1 percent).
North has started 25 of the 27 games played as the team’s shooting guard. Last week, he was selected to the Second Team All-University Athletic Association (UAA). The junior is second on the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game while making a team-leading 42 three-pointers. North is also averaging 3.8 rebounds per game.
Gross has started 26 of 27 games this season and was also a second team All-UAA pick. The starting point guard averaged 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per contest in his junior campaign. The gross pace leads the team in both assists (3.3 APG) and steals (1.8 SPG).
Four Maroon males also earned academic all-district distinction – Bryce Hopkins, Alec Bryan, ezra moose And skyler tweyman,
Hopkins started in 18 games during his senior season. He led the roster with 12.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. He ranked second on the team with 26 steals and made 36.8 percent of his three-pointers. Hopkins was a Second Team All-UAA honoree last week.
Bryan played in 23 games with eight starts. The senior forward averaged 3.5 points and 2.2 rebounds per game. He made 18 three-pointers on the season.
Moose started 14 of 25 games as a sophomore. The forward put up 4.1 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per contest. Moose sank 23 three-pointers.
Twyman made one start in 22 games at his point guard position. The senior posted 0.9 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.
Nominees for Academic All-District must be a starting or significant reserve at their current institution with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale).
