The Wire star Lance Reddick has died at the age of 60 – days after failing to turn up to a premiere in New York.

Reddick – who played Cedric Daniels on the hit crime series – died ‘suddenly’ and of natural causes,’ said his agent Mia Hansen.

‘Lance will be greatly missed. Please respect his family’s privacy at this time,’ Hansen said in a statement.

Tributes poured in for the ‘incredibly talented’ actor after his body was discovered at his home in Studio City, California at 9.30am on Friday.

Just yesterday, she uploaded a photo of herself with her three dogs at home in an Instagram promotional post about the Hard Rock Hotel and National Puppy Day.

Reddick was in the midst of a promotional tour for his franchise John Wick in which he starred as concierge Karen.

He was supposed to attend a premiere of Vic 4 with co-star Keanu Reeves on Wednesday evening, but failed to turn up. Reddick did not explain his absence.

He was also reportedly scheduled to appear on The Kelly Clarkson Show next week.

DailyMail.com has contacted the actor’s representatives for comment.

Yesterday he posted several photos of himself with his three dogs in a promotional post for Hard Rock Hotels.

He wrote: ‘On screen and off, it’s no surprise that I love to spoil my dogs.’

Three days back, he had shared a video in which he was singing happily and his dogs were barking in the background.

Reddick will be best remembered for his role as Daniels on the hit HBO crime series The Wire, appearing in all 60 episodes alongside stars including Dominic West and Idris Elba.

His death comes less than two years after The Wire star Michael K. Williams died in September 2021 at the age of 54 from an accidental drug overdose.

Reddick had recurring roles on the hit TV shows Fringe, Oz, Bosch and Lost and was the voice of Commander Zavala in the Destiny video game.

And he starred in the blockbuster films Godzilla Vs. Kong and Angel Have Fallen.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Reddick, daughter Yvonne Nicole Reddick, and son Christopher Reddick.

Stars took to Twitter to pay tribute to the ‘incredibly talented’ actor as news of his death broke on Friday.

‘A man of great strength and grace,’ said his co-star Wendell Pierce on The Wire.

‘As talented a musician as he was, equally an actor. Class symbol. Sudden unexpected sharp painful grief for our artistic family.

‘An unimaginable pain for his personal family and loved ones. Godspeed my friend. You have made your mark here. Tear out’

Guardians of the Galaxy actor James Gunn said: ‘Lance Reddick was an incredibly nice guy, and an incredibly talented actor.

‘It’s heartbreaking. My love goes out to all his family, friends and colleagues.

Fans shared their favorite clips of Reddick, including a scene from The Eric Andre Show where he stuns the host in a satirical quip.

One Twitter user wrote: ‘RIP Lance Reddick. One of my favorite actors and the only person to scare Eric Andre.

‘In anything from John Wick to The Wire to Fringe, he always gave the performance of his life. He will be dearly missed.’

The son of Dorothy Gee and Solomon Reddick, Lance was born in Baltimore, Maryland, where he attended Friends School, a private Quaker school in Baltimore.

He studied music at Peabody Preparatory Institute before venturing into acting.

In the early 90s, Reddick attended the Yale School of Drama, eventually receiving a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1994.

Despite landing high-profile roles on TV shows like The Wire, Reddick has managed to keep his personal life out of the limelight.

The actor's body was found at his home in Studio City, California around 9:30 am on Friday.
