The posted screenshot is from January 24, 2010, a full four months before Bitcoin Pizza Day – when bitcoin developer Laszlo Hanecz paid 10,000 bitcoins for two pizzas. widely regarded First real-world purchase made using bitcoin.
The screenshot shows a user named Sabunir by trying to sell a photograph for 500 bitcoins – roughly worth $1 at the time – on the bitcoin forum BitcoinTalk.
It also shed light on pseudonymous bitcoin Founder Satoshi Nakamoto was trying to get Involved To help with sales.
However, the claim has been cast with skepticism, with a tweet from professional poker player-turned-crypto investor Mike McDonald pointing to a screenshot that suggested a bitcoin transaction may have been a charity, implying that the JPEG was actually ” was not sold”.
I’m not sure if it has been removed yet, but it looks like Sabunir’s 500 BTC was a donation rather than a sale.
He posted his address for his NFT on January 24th, then posted it again on February 24th in the BTC logo thread. Feb 24th 500 BTC sent, Feb 25th they thank 2 people for donating 1/2 pic.twitter.com/6Rk9Ont9KU

In a later tweet, Wertheimer acknowledged that his original tweet may have been erroneous, although Sabunir listed a jpeg for sale at a price of 500 BTC and received the same amount at his address a month later, ” It is possible that the 500 BTC was sent as a donation to a separate conversation” and the sale of the JPEG never actually took place.
Wertheimer said, without confirmation from Sabunir in person, it is unclear what the 500 BTC were transferred for.
