The French label showcased a colorful collection that recalled the heyday of the space age
For the first time in decades, French label Pierre Cardin returned to the official Paris Fashion Week with a collection that recalled the heyday of the space age.
Models wore two-toned suit jackets, contrasting dresses and hats, shimmering gold trousers and thin ties with triangular-shaped lapels that formed an arrow-like shape at the tip, Reuters reports.

The runway was set in the label’s vacant flagship store which is being renovated. The spinning holograms were projected into the windows of stores located across the street from France’s Elysee Palace, reports Reuters.
The collection was designed by the late designer’s great-nephew, Rodrigo Basilicati Cardin. Reports state that he took over the reins of the label after Cardin’s death in 2020. “My goal is to manage the label and get it on track,” he said speaking to reporters after the show as he greeted guests including French singer Mireille Mathieu.

Cardin was the first couturier to turn his name into a global brand. He was not only a fashion innovator but also a great marketer.
In a 2010 book, Pierre Cardin: 60 years of innovationJean-Pascal Hesse, longtime director of communications for the label, writes, “He only looks at the balance sheet to see what he can achieve next. Galaxies of business opportunities open before his eyes, a real parade of fashion, hotels, restaurants. He has so much that he likes to say with great pride that he is self-sufficient. He can drink his own wine, or his own mineral water, go to his own theatres, eat in his own restaurants, stay in his own hotels, sleep on his own sheets, wear his own clothes and cologne. Only his Pierre Cardin cigarettes, manufactured by the millions in China, never reach him. Supervision? No, he doesn’t smoke.”
