
chicago — A trio of University of Chicago student-athletes received weekly honors from the University Athletic Association (UAA) and the Midwest Conference (MWC) on Monday.
drew bryan Earned his second MWC Pitcher of the Week award this season. The junior righthander proved untouchable in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Lawrence University. Bryan tied his season high with 15 strikeouts in 7.2 innings pitched, striking out 54 percent of batters he faced. He allowed only three hits and one walk, and his scoreless streak now stood at 17.2 innings. So far this year, Bryan is 6-2 with a 2.63 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 51.1 innings.
Claudia Ng Was named UAA Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Week. The seniors swept the No. 1-ranked Maroons 5–0 in the second and third rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships. Ng went 4–0 between No. 2 doubles and No. 6 singles. He ousted his Grinnell College opponent 6–0, 6–0 and followed it up with a 6–1, 6–2 win against Carleton College. Ng teamed up with Peren Wang to win the doubles by scores of 8–3 and 8–4. On the season, the senior has a 21–2 singles record and 25–8 doubles mark.
maddy kelly 2023 won the UAA accolade in women’s track for the second time. Lorus College Dr. At the Tucker Open, Kelly won the 1,500 meters in a school-record time of 4:27.85. That mark broke the previous UChicago record by nearly three seconds. The junior sprinter is currently ranked in the top 20 nationally in three different events – 1,500m (5th), 5,000m (8th) and 800m (17th).
