Greensboro, NC – The University of Chicago swimming and diving teams earned 14 All-American awards on Thursday, the second day of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships.
Jessie Sengonzi Broke his own school record and the NCAA meet record in the men’s 100-yard butterfly prelims. The UChicago junior’s time of 46.47 was only 0.01 seconds off the all-time NCAA Division III record. In the evening final, Ssengonzi claimed the NCAA runner-up finish in 46.68. teammates Garrett Klassen And Jared Zhang Both ninth-place and 13th-place finishes, respectively, earned second-team All-America finishes in the consolation finals.
The men’s 200 yard freestyle relay also broke the previous school record. Zhang’s Quartet, jason starbuck, Jonathan Tang And arthur kiselnikov Set a time of 1:19.80. That mark earned him fourth place and first team All-America honors.
UChicago’s 400-yard medley relay earned All-American podium finishes for the men and women. group of men John Paul Phillips, Klaasen, Cengonzi and Kiselnikov finished third in 3:12.76. women’s relay Ioanna Georgopoulou, Alicia Sousai, Emily Xu And Karen Zhao Finished eighth with a timing of 3:46.92.
There were a total of six Maroons in action in the 200-yard freestyle. Zhao reached the women’s championship final and finished fourth overall in 1:50.34 to earn first team All-American accolades. Kiselnikov earned first team All-America status with her seventh-place showing (1:39.05), while Kyle Garcia Was a second team All-American in 10th place (1:37.96).
marcel milo-sidlo Led his way to a school record in the men’s 400-yard IM prelims with a time of 3:54.80. He finished the evening season as a First Team All-American with a seventh-place finish.
Maroon received second team All-America honors in three other events. logan sherwin (437.00 points) and Andrew Chen (434.55 points) and finished 11th and 13th respectively in the men’s one meter dive. Emily Xu Finished 10th in the women’s 100-yard butterfly (55.59). Women’s 200-Yard Freestyle Relay (Ju, Olivo, channel kann, Grace Schwitters) finished 10th in 1:33.89.
