Winter Haven, Fla. – The University of Chicago softball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Florida with a pair of victories against Saint Norbert College and Ripon College on Friday.
The Maroons improved their season record to 6–4.
UChicago 8, St. Norbert 0 (5 innings)
The Maroons dominated the early game on both sides of the ball. starting pitcher delaney choi pitched five innings spotless as he allowed only one base runner. The junior improved his season record to 3–0, striking out two in the shutout effort.
UChicago’s offense played its part in ending the game early via the run rule. Single-run tallies were reached in the bottom of the first and third innings, thanks to a wild pitch and an RBI groundout by Nicole Wong, The Maroons broke away in a big way in the bottom of the fourth, building a 6–0 lead. anna jensen posted a RBI single and Layla Sims followed immediately with a three-run homer.
The final run of the game came in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by Paige Zvocel And ava sinai,
UChicago posted 10 hits and three stolen bases in the contest. jensen and Olivia Cataldo Both batted 2-for-2.
UChicago 4, Ripon 3
In game two, the Maroons jumped out to a quick 2–0 lead in the top of the first inning. Sims singled, stole second base, and scored again. Claire FortierUnmarried of Two batters later, Paige Zvocel Also knocked in an RBI single.
The two teams exchanged single runs in the third inning, with Cataldo knocking in an RBI single.
UChicago then led 4–1 in the sixth. alina yazek Entered the lineup as a pinch hitter and immediately took a single to score a runner from third base.
Rippon made things tense in the bottom of the sixth, however. A single and a sacrifice fly cut the deficit to 4–3. but starting maroon pitcher Paige Hefke Sent down the next five batters to preserve the win.
Hefke moved to 3–2 on the season with a complete game effort. He struck out four while allowing one earned run.
Maroon collected eight hits and committed three errors. Fortier went 2-for-4 at the dish with an RBI.
