Canberra, Australia – Tennis Star Nick Kyrgios The Australian Broadcasting Corp reported on Tuesday that it helped police apprehend a man who allegedly stole his Tesla at gunpoint from a home in Australia’s capital city.
The ABC said court documents show Kyrgios used a Tesla app to track and slow down the vehicle as it was pursued by police in Canberra on Monday morning.
ABC said court documents allege a man pointed a gun at Kyrgios’ mother, Norlaila Kyrgios, and asked for car keys. She called Kyrgios, who was nearby, and called a police emergency number as soon as the man got into the car.
The police chase ended when the car entered a school zone but a man was soon arrested.
A 32-year-old man has been refused bail after appearing in the Australian Capital Territory Magistrates’ Court on five charges relating to the incident, including aggravated robbery, driving a stolen vehicle, rash driving and failing to stop for police Is.
Kyrgios reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon and the US Open last year but has not played competitively at the elite level since withdrawing from a tournament in Japan last October due to a knee injury.
