Radio star Ray Hadlee has secured a $10 million contract with Sydney’s 2GB and Brisbane’s 4BC after signing with the stations until 2026.
Hadlee revealed news of his contract extension on Friday morning following speculation about the veteran broadcaster’s future.
‘After sitting down with Tom Malone [Nine Radio’s managing director] Over an extended period, and then receiving the support of my wife Sophie, I have decided to accept the offer to extend my current deal,” Hadley said.
‘I look forward to the next three years enjoying 2GB as much as I have enjoyed the last 22 years.
‘I’m also excited to be back at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 – my 7th Olympics – and again, I’ll be the lead commentator on swimming and track and field (for Nine Radio).

‘If you like what I do, I think you’ll be happy. If you don’t like what I do – bad luck.
‘I will continue to do what I have always done in broadcasting: try to get justice for those who are not represented and hold politicians to account.
‘I’ll be playing a lot of country music, and most importantly try to have fun.’
The broadcaster, 68, was offered a job in radio while working as a cab driver in the 1980s after giving a ride to a news director.
Since then, he has become one of the country’s most trusted media personalities, and has won 148 consecutive morning radio polls on Sydney’s 2GB.
‘People often give a bad name to cab drivers. I get referred to as an ex-cabbie like it’s some sort of embarrassment,’ Hadley told Media Week.
‘But there’s no doubt that if I hadn’t driven a cab that Tuesday night, I wouldn’t be speaking to you now.’
In 2021, Hadley married his former secretary, Sophie Baird.
Ray proposed to Sophie – who was his personal assistant for 16 years – in October of 2019 when he left home to call the NRL Grand Final between the Sydney Roosters and the Canberra Raiders at Sydney Olympic Park.
From a combined three previous marriages, the loved-up couple has six adult children.
They include Daniel, 30, and Laura, 28, from Hadley’s first marriage to Anne Marie, Emma and Sarah with Suzanne – and Nick, 21, and Jesse, 19, from Sophie’s previous marriage.

Hadley is no stranger to life’s ups and downs and has previously admitted that Baird has made him a happier person.
Speaking to Men’s Health, the radio host admitted: ‘Just being with him calms you down. I was a very sad person for a long time.
‘I’m not blaming anyone for my sadness, but I was very sad. Professionally, I was happy, but personally, I was very unhappy, without knowing that I was unhappy or why,’ he said.
In 2018, his son Daniel was forced to leave the police force after being charged with cocaine possession.
Hadley Sr. has described the heartbreak of learning about his only son’s mental health and drug problems following his widely publicized arrest.
“We didn’t know he had been battling these issues mentally – and according to his GP – had been battling for quite some time,” he said.
