Singapore’s Changi Airport has been named “World’s Best Airport” for a record 12th time.
City-state airport reclaimed title in “world airport awards 2023“air transport research firm Skytrax announced yesterday.
Changi Airport previously ranked first in Skytrax’s annual ranking for eight consecutive years from 2013 to 2020, but has been behind Doha’s Hamad International Airport and Tokyo’s Haneda Airport for the past two years.
Global travelers representing more than 100 nationalities participated in the Skytrax survey, which also named Singapore’s Changi Airport as:
- best airport in asia
- Best Airport in the World – Food, and
- The best airport in the world – Comfort features.
Customers rated airports according to a number of factors including shopping, check-in, arrivals, transfers and security and immigration.

Doha’s Hamad International Airport came second, Tokyo’s Haneda Airport third and Incheon International Airport fourth. Japan had two airports in the top 10 this year, with Narita International Airport in ninth place.
The other top spots were filled by the main airports in Paris (fifth), Istanbul (sixth), Munich (seventh) and Zurich (eighth). All airports in last year’s top 10 list made reappearances except Osaka’s Kansai International Airport, which was replaced by Spain’s Madrid-Barajas Airport (10th).

The Skytrax survey also ranked airports on other metrics. The “world’s best airport staff” can be found at Seoul’s Incheon International Airport, while China’s Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport has won “world’s best airport”.
What to know about Changi Airport
Changi Airport has won more than ever 660 “Best Airport” Awards Since it was opened in 1981. The airport plans to increase the capacity of its Terminal 2 building to 5 million passengers per year, and has begun upgrade works to be completed by 2024.
Across its four terminals, Changi Airport has gym and shower facilities, sleeping areas, a 16-metre-tall children’s play structure and a swimming pool in front of the runway.
Terminal 1 connects directly to Jewel Changi Airport, a 10-story retail complex that features seven themed gardens, a forested canyon of more than 2,000 trees, and the world’s tallest indoor waterfall.

Skytrax CEO Edward Plaisted called the win an “underline”.[s] The airport’s popularity with international air travelers,” which has returned to around 80% of pre-Covid 19 levels, he said.
