British Columbia officials are investigating after 17 wild horses were shot in what Mounties are calling a “desperate act.”
The Tk’emlup Rural RCMP received a report of several dead horses on Friday near Walahachin, BC, about 65 kilometers west of Kamloops, the RCMP said in a news release.
Police say the RCMP’s Forensic Identification Section, along with a veterinarian and a livestock investigator, carefully examined the scene.
They say the animals appear to be from a herd of wild horses that frequent the area.
RCMP say a motive has not yet been confirmed and the investigation is ongoing.
They say the horses are of cultural importance to the local Skecheston band and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
